ProTransit Inc., an Omaha-based biotechnology company, is commercializing a patented, sustained-release microparticle drug delivery platform called Pro-MP™, which penetrates the skin to deliver a wide range of pharmaceutical actives better, faster, and safer than needles and pills.
The primary focus of Pro-MP™ is the delivery of antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT), to destroy highly damaging reactive oxygen species (also known as free radicals). The cellular damage caused by free radicals is a major driver in numerous diseases such as skin cancer, photoaging, traumatic brain injury, hypertension, and many others. The first commercial application of Pro-NP™ with SOD and CAT will be in two skincare products launching in early 2026: a nighttime serum and a sunscreen primer. ProTransit has worked extensively with the Nebraska Nanomedicine Production Plant, which is on the campus of UNMC, to finalize the production process and scale up to industrial scale. Based on recent successful first-in-human clinical trials, ProTransit is pursuing expanded trials in hair regrowth and plaque psoriasis, followed by product launches in collaboration with national and international commercial partners.
